SATURDAY 24th MARCH 2018: After more than four years in the making, today saw the official public opening of Wicker Man at Alton Towers Resort, their brand-new wooden rollercoaster and the first to be built in the UK for 21 years, with the unique thrill of fire.     Lucas Betts, aged 10 from Leicester, navigated the influx of guests on launch day to become the first member of the public to board Wicker Man and experience the attraction from the front row of the rollercoaster train.  Alton Towers Resort has invested £16 million into Wicker Man which has been in development for the last four years, with over 1,000 workers having dedicated more than 500,000 man hours to its creation. Featuring a six-story (57.7ft) Wicker Man structure, the ride bursts into flames as the train races through its chest. The track spans over 2,000 feet and is made from naturally treated timber secured by 1.8 million screws and 65,000 bolts.   Wicker Man today officially joins a line-up of adrenalin-pumping experiences at Alton Towers Resort including Nemesis, Oblivion, The Smiler and Galactica.
